Through recreating some of Rossetti’s work including Venus Verticordia, I wanted to look at the issue of ageism that seems to often present itself within the fashion industry. I used an older model to point out the rarity in which models over a certain age threshold are shown, and even less so celebrated. They are often linked with unglamorous clothing, anti-ageing campaigns and retirement adverts. The theme behind the photographs is the Pre-Raphaelite brotherhood as they have challenged the Victorian beauty aesthetics within their work, being heavily criticised for not beautifying the world they saw to create the ‘ideal beauty’.
